in game store, and why its not used.
Anet wonders why people don't use the store? well it MIGHT have something to do with the fact that almost everything in the in game store cost MORE than at a real store. NF is $50 in store. $40 at real stores. proph+eye is $60 in game, $50 in real store. if you want people to use the in game store make the items cost AT LEAST the same as in a real store. i can order from newegg.com, with ~$5 shipping and still save ~$5 and don't even have to leave the house. figure you trade the box+random crap for bandwidth, it should at the very least cost the same amount, and in my opinion cost less than in a real store

I only used the store once and i'll never use it again.
I bought EOTN from the store the day it came out because:
1) Walmart didnt have it the day it came out. Staples did not either. I live in a town and dont have those video game stores.
2) I wanted BMP

If they made prices lower than retail stores then why would retail stores wish to buy from them when player would just by directly from gw ?

I don't use it anymore because there really isn't anything for me to buy.

do ANet wonder this? I haven't seen that press release.
I will point out one good reason:
In-game store transactions are almost instantaneous. You don't have to wait 3-10 days for delivery nor do you have to leave the house.

The main reason for me that it is not used, is because of the payment options. Only few people own credit / debit cards in places other than America, making it impossible to make a purchase.

I bought EotN from the in-game store because I couldn't find it in stores other than mixed with Prophecies. I prefer to buy my games in box from a retailer, but since everything is tied to an account in GW it doesn't matter if you have the actual disc in hand.

People still use it, it is useful for the people that can't get a game in a store or shipped to them. It is useful for those that want the game instantly and those that want the items you can't buy in stores (character slots, PvP Packs).
You're right though that the prices for the campaigns are cheaper elsewhere, and there aren't as many payment options as people would like.

I've bought everything except the original prophecies copy from online store.
Simply put, phoning around to see which store gets it first, driving there, and all the other tiny details take around an hour or so.
With that in mind, there is no price difference for me, it might be even cheaper to buy online. And besides, Getting to play a new chapter the minute it comes out - well, it's got some value for me.

Um... No, sorry, but people outside America don't live in mud houses and communicate via carrier pidgeons. Credit cards have long ago become the preferred payment method.
They may require one to be over 14/16/18 (depending on bank). Debit cards are generally trivial to obtain, but some of them cannot be used for online purchases.

I'd use it, higher prices and all, but I have no form of electronic payment.

I use it to buy character slots, bought EotN via it too (wanted the BMP), but the fair lack of CONTENT is the reason why I don't use it. And even there, if they added new content I didn't want, I wouldn't use it anyways.

They'd probably make more money selling in-game gold than anything they have at the store. Unlock packs are over-priced, character slots are decent, but i never need too many (only had to buy 1). There's nothing REALLY cool and important for the average gamer.

The prices are on the extreme high end when put in comparison to the prices I got the games for.
Prophecies - $20
Factions $50
Nightfall $25
EoTN - $35
Not to mention I have issues trusting online stores, especially ones in a video game.

I use the online store for extra character slots but that is all.
Would I buy the game there answer no not unless the online version was considerably cheaper than from a store.
The collectors editions of the games always come with extras too which is nice.
Take Nightfall CE it was cheaper than the online store and was delivered on the afternoon of the release date.
I already had the prerelease bonus pack so it was installed a week before release and just needed the new code.
In the box were 3 disks
Game, soundtrack and the making of NF disks
Game map
Keycode chart listing keys emotes and explaining skill ranges etc
cutout figure of the main baddie of NF
Nightfall art book
Nightfall manuscripts book with lots of usefull game info
Skill pin "vow of silence"
I got all that cheaper than a screen with a line of code on it.
Sorry but just as electronic books are cheaper than real books electronic downloads of games have to be cheaper than the boxed version.
I guess they don't do it because they have a deal with the game stores who advertise and sell their games and who wouldn't like being undercut.
Must be some room for a compromise though.
